Putting the newly touted iPhone packager aside for a moment, lets take a look at some of the really great new Flash tools and features that may actually help you to improve your Flash projects and your efficiency. Since Flash Kit is dedicated to the Flash community, and we’re all under extraordinary pressure to keep our competitive edge, we’re going to pay particular attention to the new Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder tools, formerly known as Flex Builder, both will be offered in the Adobe CS5 Master Collection, Design Premium, Web Premium and Production Premium editions, you’ll also be able to purchase them as stand-alone products.

The new CS5 Flash Catalyst is what first peaked our interest. This is a very efficient and easy to use Flash design tool. With it you can easily leverage the richness of the Flash platform by easily transforming any Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Fireworks design into a fully interactive Flash project without ever writing a snibbet of code. Some may consider this to be an asset when developing while others will not.

We couldn’t help but take notice that Flash Catalyst CS5 was soundly equipped to integrate nicely with Flash Professional CS5 and Adobe Flash Builder 4. According to Adobe, the whole package is fine tuned for the release of both Flash Player 10.1 and Adobe AIR 2. Both of which are expected to offer much better performance on mobile devises and take full advantage of native device potential.

We thought the new features were useful and easy to use. For example it was ridiculously easy to add Flash content to our active web projects and it integrated perfectly with both Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator. For example, you can work seamlessly between your Illustrator designs and Flash Catalyst since you can open them right from Flash Catalyst, again, no coding required to transform your Illustrator designs using all the tools and features right from Flash Catalyst, this preserves both the structure and the interactivity that you just added using the Illustrator tools. The same feature applies for Photoshop. When your done playing with all the great new features of Photoshop and Illustrator, simply publish the project as a SWF file and your done or import the project into Flash Builder and add whatever functionality you need.

Also new to CS5 Web Premium and CS5 Master Collection is Flash Builder 4. This is an Eclipse based, professional development tool to help developers quickly and easily build cross-platform RIAs while using the Flex framework. This makes it very easy to collaborate with the entire design team to quickly build and deliver the requested applications.

New features with the new Flash Builder include the new Flex Theme Browser, new coding tools, Data-centric, Interactive data visualization enhanced, Skinning and styling enhanced, Integration with Adobe Creative Suite design tools enhanced, Native support for Adobe AIR, and enhanced Code refactoring. New items included only in the Premium edition include New testing tools, new Network Monitor, enhanced Advanced data services, new Command line build, new Flex unit testing integration, and new ASDoc support.

» Description: Hmm... what to say about this one? It's reminiscent of the closing notes of the opening music from the Three Stooges done in a church organ style with a closing cymbal crash. I'll give this one away gratis, but feel free to check out my free loops and potential upcoming license-mandated ones over in the respective part of Flashkit.
